Sightseeing in Guam

At least here in Guam on the radio they are recommending getting out
and getting some fresh air, just keep your distance from each other
So we  have done a little sight seeing.  Here is myself checking out a
Japanese pillbox that was defending a beach our soldiers had to storm

My dad was here about 3 years ago and we checked out the same
Japanese gun.  I hope he washed his hands before he did this pose!

Defenses here on Guam go back farther than WWII. This is
Fort Nuestra de la Soledad, built by the Spanish in the early 1800's
to protect the adjacent harbour.  The harbour was used by the Spanish galleons
to provision on their way to Manila.  There were 4 previous forts on this site.
The Galeons were hauling gold from the America's

In front of a Museum (that was closed of course) was a Japanese mini sub
Just like the mini sub we dove on in northern New Guinea.  It was nice to
see one out of the water without barnacles

We even get to do some sight seeing from our boat
The USS Theodore Roosevelt docked just behind us
They have had many sailors test Covid-19 positive
They have come into Guam to get everyone tested

This is the USNS Richard E Byrd
a dry cargo ship for the navy

We planned on being in Saipan by now and getting ready to spend a couple months in Japan
All that has changed because of Covid-19.
We are going to hang out in Guam for at least another month.
Then we plan a long, about 35 day 4300 mile trip to Alaska
