Wine Country

Approaching San Franscico we saw the Golden Gate Bridge at a distance

but it disappeared in the fog as we got closer

We did get a peek at part of the bridge after we went under it

After a couple of days in Sausalito we headed up under another bridge
at the mouth for the Petaluma River, a little lower than the Golden Gate
I flew the drone to eyeball the clearance and had at least
2 foot to spare!  Hard to tell looking up from the deck.

Then we had to wait a while for a RR bridge to open for us.
Was a little trying with a  narrow shallow river with tide coming up
The wind blew the bow downstream but turned and made it through
Only churned up a little mud!

Then under another tall bridge and one more to open for us
Five bridges in total

And we have arrived in Petaluma, in wine country.
Docked downtown where we could here the live music

A long way from the ocean

The first day we went to a local wine tasting
Came home with a couple bags of wine
The trip up the river was worth it!

  1. Hey Gary,

Your photos are great! I'm sitting here in Edwardsville (KS) asking myself why I'm getting ready for another winter when I could be finding a warmer climate.!

I caught your post on a PSE brother's Facebook page, and from there found your website. (You might not remember me, I pledged in the fall of 1981.)

I have been thinking about what it takes to get involved in sailing for several months, and have of course done web research, but it would be great to give some advice on the costs, opportunities, and realities etc from yourself.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Email is above, my cell/text is 816-392-7290

    Thanks!

  2. Correction it was "get" not "give" in my message above.

    Thanks!
